
Gabriela Rosenthal, M.S.,is the married, mother of four children and the face of the Physicians are Changing the Shape of America national ad campaign with The Center For Medical Weight Loss. She has a Masters in Science degree from Nova South Eastern University and a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree from the University of Miami. She attends regular bariatric conventions to keep her knowledge up to date on cutting edge weight loss technology. She has inspired millions of people with her weight loss story appearing numerous times on local and national television including NBC and Fox News. Gabriela enjoys the outdoors and is an avid cyclist and tennis player. She has been published in a wide variety of magazines and is featured in the inspirational book, Your Life Your Destiny by author Wendi Blum. She has a true passion for weight loss and helping others get healthy. She has motivated numerous magazine publishers and editors to create a healthy living column for their publications. Each month, Gabriela writes informative and educational articles providing readers personal insight into her weight loss success and long term maintenance.

Gabriela is the weight loss specialist at the Center for Medical Weight Loss on University Drive where she wears many hats. Many patients consider her an expert in her field; others regard her as their inspirational coach, workout partner, and health guru. Gabriela knows about their daily weight loss anxiety and struggle because she herself used to weigh over 260 pounds. “Treating people with weight problems isn't as simple as telling them to eat less,” explains Gabriela. “I know as I’ve personally lost more than 130 pounds. Obesity is a disease that needs to be treated by doctors via a customized weight loss program addressing the underlying cause of obesity – food addiction.”
Dr. Elisabeth Cohn-Gelwasser, M.D, the resident physician at the Center for Medical Weight Loss on University Drive, has been practicing Internal Medicine in South Florida for more than 15 years. A true Miami native, Dr. Cohn-Gelwasser grew up in Hollywood, FL, where she now lives with her husband and son.
Cohn-Gelwasser received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Miami. Making the Dean’s List every semester, she was a member of the prestigious Golden Key National Honor Society. After attending graduate school at Florida International University for a year, she entered University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, receiving her M.D. in 1989. Cohn-Gelwasser completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland in 1992. After serving as an attending physician for a year in Baltimore, MD, she returned to the sunshine state to work in a private practice.
Cohn-Gelwasser is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the National Board of Medical Examiners. She continues to be active in the medical community as a member of the Aetna US Healthcare Credentialing and Performance Committee, the Memorial Hospital Pembroke Medical Staff Ethics Committee and the Consultant of Advisor Board Committee for Novartis Pharmaceutical Company. Cohn-Gelwasser is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Medicine, the Broward County Medical Association and the Florida Medical Association.
The resident certified fitness instructor is Maritza Henderson, who has more than 15 years of experience in training men and women of all fitness levels. She is responsible for helping patients at the Center for Medical Weight Loss with personal training and exercise programs by providing both group and individual fitness classes featuring customized workouts targeted to specific weight loss and fitness goals. She is certified by the Aerobic and Fitness Association in personal training, group exercise, kick boxing, spinning, and many other programs of fitness.
Recently featured on CNN News, Henderson has completed the Candy Colby Aerobic and Personal Training course and has been trained as a Diet Technician at Atlantic Vocational School. She constantly upgrades her knowledge and skills in health and fitness with continuing education through FiTOUR. Prior to joining our Center, Maritza performed with the Royal Academy of Ballet in Mexico for 7 years and earned an AA degree in Science from Broward Community College.
